The New York City Department of Education Virtual Advanced Placement Grant seeks to target current and future iLearnNYC schools, and augment their services by providing Advanced Placement teachers with the skills and resources to increase participation of low-income and minority students in PSAT and virtual learning Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams. This program also seeks to increase the number of teachers qualified to teach virtual AP courses. This grant will target 60 high school AP teachers and those teachers planning to teach an AP course within the next year.
These targeted teachers are categorized into 3 cohorts:
Cohort 1 - AP teachers who seek to deepen their content knowledge and master the development of transferring traditional AP content to a virtual learning environment
Cohort 2 - AP teachers who have used the virtual resources available via iLearnNYC, but who have not customizing vendor-created course content
Cohort 3 - iLearnNYC high school teachers who plan to teach AP courses in the near future and who are just becoming acquainted with virtual courses and resources available to them through iLearnNYC
During the life of the funding period, selected teachers will receive professional development and will contribute a minimum of 20 peer reviewed, high-quality AP courses to the NYS repository of virtual courses. In addition, teachers and students will be asked to complete an evaluation survey in the fall and spring to assess the effectiveness of the program.
